It’s been almost one year since we published the Environmental Sustainability Strategy! 🌍 🌱 🛣 On Monday, an inspiring group of industry specialists met to share best practice partnership principles for achieving our commitments to Nature, Carbon and Communities: working together to achieve a richer, more resilient and a better connected natural environment; reduced pollution and increased community wellbeing; and meeting our commitments to reduce carbon emissions and support resilience to a changing climate. 🧑🤝🧑🌳🌼🚗 The Environmental Sustainability Conference explored: ✔️ our vision to deliver ambitious, positive change for nature, carbon and communities ✔️ how we will build a programme of environmental improvements ✔️ how we can work with partners to share experience and resources to achieve more together than we could separately We had guest speakers from Moors for the Future and the Environment Agency to help us understand how we can work closer together. We look forward to meeting with this group regularly to discuss progress and to continue to improve our ways of work. And with #NHNatureWeek on the way, the timing was great too!

From a ‘Punch Bowl’ to a green bridge We’ve undertaken some ambitious projects over the years. The road we’re showcasing today as part of our #100YearsOfAroads celebrations is the A3. Over a decade ago, we opened the Hindhead Tunnel which took the A3 under the Devil’s Punch Bowl in Surrey and meant the old A3 could be restored to heathland. Today, as part of our upgrade to the A3 Wisley interchange at junction 10 of the M25, we’re reinstating lost heathland and creating the UK’s very first heathland bridge. ▶️ https://lnkd.in/dYhkry5s

We're honoured to have received the Carer Confident Active Award. This was for our work in supporting our colleagues who are balancing work alongside being a carer. We'll continue to build a diverse and inclusive working environment where individuals can bring their whole self to work and thrive. #WhoWeAre
This month we are celebrating three new Carer Confident employers, including Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and National Highways, both achieving the Active award, and HM Land Registry who have achieved the Accomplished award. We have also had two organisations renewing their Carer Confident accreditation. Companies House has successfully renewed at the Active level and Ofcom has successfully renewed at the Accomplished level. It is not only great to see new employers joining the scheme, but employers who want to maintain their award and continue to develop their support for carers. Congratulations to all employers on their awards! Find out more about Carer Confident on our website: https://lnkd.in/e66p6qJk Carers UK #CarerConfident #SupportingWorkingCarers

For #NationalWalkingMonth, we want to highlight the work we're doing to encourage active travel. ✅ We worked with the National Trust to transform the Castlefield Viaduct into the 'garden in the sky'. Since it opened to the public, nearly 50,000 people have visited the viaduct. ✅ On the A27 East of Lewes, we created a new path for walkers, cyclists and horse riders between Firle and Polegate.
